| ok, this is here for all aspiring rappers. i am not the best and i kno that, but i kno what i do wrong, wut i do right, what u do wrong, and what u do right. i'll just give you some dos, donts, and tips. firstly, do not use weak rhymes. what do i mean by weak rhymes? i do not mean the "we-be-me" rhyme because u can justify that wit surrounding lyrics. i mean "car-bar", "rhyme-time", and "best-west". and its not limited to those. NEVER EVER EVER EVER just make a rhyme. thats weak. it HAS to make sense. that means dont say 1 thing and then sumthin else just so it rhymes. for example, "u kno about the boy who cried wolf?// you ride on a horse with 1 hoof,// see my tv? take a look,// i'm like harry potter, deserve to have a book//"... thats weak... its gotta make sense no matter what... sometimes u could get away with it, but u need a voice that ppl will ignore it with. ludacris and jay-z do it sometimes but ppl dont really notice it. dmx does it A LOT, but hes got beats to back his stuff up. when u rap, try to have more than 1 rhyme per line. use variety but in a pattern. what do i mean? i mean like "i made you afraid of a razor blade,// where u fade away in the darkest days//" ok? i should prolly stop using examples bcuz once i write it, ya cant use it in ur own music cuz every1 would kno u copied offa me. ok, um, as for what u should do, when u freestyle, think ahead. if u say a line and THEN think of a rhyme, u may slip up like ppl do on freestyle friday A LOT, or u may not get a line as good as if u thought of it before u said it. i'm still working on the thinking ahead part. personally, i dunno if it works for others, but i gotta keep rappin until im in a zone where the rhymes just flow outta my mouth. once i start, i gotta warm up. also, when battlin, dont give ppl an easy comeback. for example, dont screw up. they will use that against u simply bcuz they can. also, if u do mess up, dont come back with "i never mess up" because u JUST DID if u didnt notice and most freestylers will use that against u. also, diss ur opponent bcuz the audience cant feel the freestyle if its just rhymes, no cracks. also, the audience has to understand u, so dont rap too fast on freestyles. and dont use prewritten raps... we can tell. do not steal lyrics, u will b caught by sum1 cuz where there are rappers, the writer of the lyrics or sum1 who knows the writer has heard the writer use the lyrics, or has seen the lyrics b4 will find u. use wordplay a lot. by that i mean take sumthin and put it in its literal sense... take one of ludacris' lines, "gimme a full body massage, i still cant be touched", thats what i mean. also, again, think ahead. remember, if ur reading and u dont read ahead as ur speakin, u'll prolly mess up... same goes for freestylin. and dont say anything stupid. i mean dont use a fat joke if ur fat, or a white joke if ur white. its just stupid. all ur doing is GIVING them a comeback and u wanna make the opponent lost for words. if they got nuthin to say, they cant beat u. |
